Abstract

The construction sector has remained late in integrated information systems' adopting process to perform the system improving processes. Lack of adoption of technology has been a root cause of the early issues they faced, such as budgetary and scheduling overshoots, quality defects, safety occurrences, and generally poor communication and coordination among the stakeholders. This research looks into the benefits and challenges, the key success factors, and the implications of using an array of information systems, including building information modeling (BIM), artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) sensing, and enterprise systems, to comprehensively address issues in project management in construction projects.

By using a meta-analysis that combines the published literature and its qualitative analysis, the study brings in empirical evidence of the types of information systems that can appropriately address varying project issues and establish integration requirements and practices for adoption that improve performance metrics such as cost, time, quality, safety, and productivity. The findings come up with an integrating construction framework for construction firms to be able to adopt and implement technology in the building process to fit into lean construction principles. The emergence of a unified framework that can digitize the building process would help the construction industry embrace the use of automation, monitoring, predictive analysis, and collaborative visualization to always produce the best outcome in every construction project.
